Obituary for Albert Paul deVos

Albert passed away peacefully at the Temiskaming Hospital on Sunday August 21, 2022.

Born in Breda, Netherlands to Louise Augustine van der Voort and Paul de Vos on January 13, 1950, Albert always had an affinity to the whimsical, magical and weird sh-t in the world. He studied still-life drawing, etching, silverpoint and anatomy at De Beeldenaar in the Netherlands. Albert created beautiful and unique artwork throughout his life combining the surreal with fairy tale and historical themes and his own Dutch heritage in ever present fish and cheese.

Albert immigrated to Canada in 1974 and had a storied career in the real world arts: practicing tool and die making, prosthetic design and shining within the CBC artistic department as a senior scenic artist. Albert met his future wife Sylvia at CBC and they happily built a wonderful home with their son, Adrian. Albert had a love of music and of travel. Whenever possible, he could be found enjoying live music: blues in Toronto, salsa on the beaches of Cuba and gypsy jazz in the Breda parks.

In his later years, Albert embraced the role of Opa as his favourite yet. Giggling, joking and getting into trouble with his girls, Eva and Ali, kept him young at heart.

Albert walked gently on this earth, with a wry laugh, dark humour and warm hug. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Sylvia Lange; son, Adrian, daughter-in-law, Ashley and grandchildren, Evangeline and Alexandra Lange; brother, Hans de Vos; and his children, Frits and Wieteke de Vos; father in law, Eugen Missel; sister and brother in law, Heike and Udo Pilz and their children, Tom and Nina Pilz and his many friends that are like family.

Albert's final care has been entrusted to Buffam Leveille Funeral Home. A private celebration of Albert’s life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to Community Cancer Care or the Temiskaming Hospital (https://www.temiskaminghospitalfoundation.org/donate) would be appreciated.
