Peacefully at the Temiskaming District Hospital on Saturday March 19, 2022, Anita Koza (nee St. Laurent) of Haileybury passed away , only days after celebrating her 95th birthday at home with friends and family. Loving wife of the late Jack Koza. Beloved mother of Jane (Len Laurin) Koza, Harry (Cynthia) Koza, Golda (Dan) Gignac and Aaron (Jill Whitwam) Koza. Survived by her grandchildren Adam, Nicolas, Emma, Zoe, Jake and great-grandchildren Gary and Turner. Predeceased by her dear siblings, Luc, Frank, Albert, Alice, Cecile and Robert. She will also be missed by her many cherished nieces and nephews. Her life was enriched by her many caring friends in the Tri-Town area, and beyond.
Anita was a life-long resident of Cobalt, actively involved in the community with the Paul Penna (Cobalt) Public Library and the Temiskaming Art Gallery. She was always busy, playing bridge, quilting and sewing, writing letters to friends and family, helping others whose partners were stricken with Alzheimer’s. She lived independently on her own terms right to the very end. She was fierce when she saw injustice, and woe betide anyone who made a racist comment in her presence as she’d read them the riot act. When she broke a hip at 92, her only complaint was that her doctor would not let her drive her 4x4 SUV anymore. She always maintained that a positive outlook was the key to happiness and longevity.
Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Paul Penna (Cobalt) Public Library. Arrangements entrusted to Buffam Leveille Funeral Home, 705-672-3122. Online condolences accepted at www.buffamleveille.com
