Daphne passed away peacefully in her home in Haileybury, Monday 9th January 2023.
She was predeceased by her parents Robert Franks and Beryl (Fodisch) Franks, her daughter Ingrid Ryan and her granddaughter D’Arcy Ryan. She is survived by her husband Arthur Beecham, her son Bryan (Heather) Beecham of Ottawa, her son-in-law John Ryan of Ottawa and grandchildren Kyle (Jennifer) Ryan of Boston, Janna (Brandon) Ryan of Ottawa, and Liam Beecham and Zach Beecham also of Ottawa. She is also survived by her sisters Cynthia (David) Wilson of Ottawa, Patricia Torr of South Africa, and Maureen (Richard) Steward of Victoria, BC as well as her step-sister Lucy (Bill) Bilinski of the Midland area, ON and her step-brother James (Jennifer) Franks of Haileybury, ON.
Daphne was born in Bulawayo, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). As a teenager, she attended St. Peter’s and Townsend secondary schools. She excelled at swimming at Townsend. She later trained as a nurse. She and Arthur were married in Bulawayo in 1965. They lived one year in Uganda where Ingrid was born before moving to Canada in 1966. They resided in Kingston, ON, Eldorado, SK, where Bryan was born, and Noranda, QC before moving to Haileybury in 1976.
In addition to raising their children, Daphne looked after the accounting and the financial part of Art’s mineral exploration business.
Daphne was a calm, positive person. She had a great commitment to her children and grandchildren on which she lavished great love. She especially enjoyed her role of Granny to her five grandchildren. She was proud of their characters and achievements. That character and success was influenced by her great love and guidance.
A memorial tea for local family and friends to meet and share stories of Daphne, will be held at St. Paul-St. Johns Anglican hall in Haileybury from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday 21st January 2023.
Daphne was part of the community of St. Paul-St. John’s Anglican Church in Haileybury. The memorial service will be held in the church on April 22, 2023 at 2:00pm
