Obituary for Deborah Anne Hopkins (Richer)

It is with broken hearts and utter sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Deborah Anne Hopkins on April 15th, 2023 at the young age of 69 years.

Debbie is survived by her 2 loving sons Keith (Tracy) of Schreiber and Scott (Ashley) of Thunder Bay. She was a proud grandma to Auroara (Brent) and Braidyn who will miss her dearly. She is also survived by her Mother (Ellen), and sisters Janice of Sturgeon Falls and Lisa (John) of St Thomas. Debbie was predeceased by her Father (Osias), her loving Husband Stephen and her brother Daniel. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends.

Debbie was born in New Liskeard, Ontario on October 2nd, 1954 to Ellen & Osias Richer. At the age of 5 her family relocated to Rouyn Noranda, Quebec living there until Debbie was 15. At the age of 15 they returned to their hometown of New Liskeard. Debbie met the love of her life Stephen at the age of 18, marrying and starting a family shortly after.
Debbie worked in New Liskeard at the Speaker as a proofreader for many years, eventually leaving her position there and relocating to a few different cities for her husband's work. During their moves Debbie dedicated her life to raising 2 handsome boys who would challenge her and love her unconditionally all the same. She supported Steve in all he did, eventually becoming his full-time care giver as his health slowly declined due to muscular dystrophy. Debbie was a person we all looked up to, she was kind and caring and so giving but also stood up for what she believed in and loved and didn’t let the opinion of few change who she was. She knew what mattered most to her and she protected that fiercely. Debbie was someone you always wanted in your corner; she was little but oh so mighty! She could put all the men in her life in their place whenever she needed to and for that reason, she raised 2 respectful, kind, caring boys who love as passionately as their mother. She had future aspirations to travel and be fully involved in her grandchildren's lives. We are saddened that she will never get to Ireland, float on a cruise ship or sit in the sun (that she was allergic to), but we know deep down that she is in the loving arms of her SUPERMAN!

As per Deb’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no celebration of life. Please take the time to celebrate Deb in your own way. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation or the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation in Deb’s name. Condolences and contributions can be left at www.buffamleveille.com
