Obituary for Doris Herbert (Lafleur)

Herbert, Doris [nee Lafleur] - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doris on January 7th, 2022 at 87 years of age. Predeceased by her husband Lorne Herbert, her parents Bertha and Edward Lafleur, her brothers, Maurice Lafleur, Albert Lafleur, Robert Lafleur, and her son Sandy. Survived by her sister Lynn Etmanski (Ken).

Cherished mother to Mike Herbert (Belinda). Loving Nan to Samantha (Jeff), Katie, Jacqui (Alex), Nessie Maille (Justin), and Becca (Shane). Proud Great-Nan to Cole Maille. She will be missed by many of her nieces, nephews and cousins, with whom she had strong relationships. Her loss will also will be felt by many close friends and neighbours, whom she regarded as family.

Doris spent the majority of her working career in the accounting department at Boart Longyear. After retiring in 1993, she spent her time volunteering at various organizations, curling and playing summer shuffleboard with friends, knitting pieces for her loved ones and working at the Sunday crossword.

Doris will be remembered for her sense of humour, her commitment to her faith, her fierce independence, her softness and maybe a little of her stubbornness. Her relentless optimism and enormous strength will be an enduring model for her family. In Doris’s dictionary, her picture would be found under “Unconditional Love”. Her greatest joy came from the times that she was surrounded by all of her family and dear friends.

At Doris’s request, cremation has taken place. The gravesite memorial service will take place on Saturday July 23rd at 2 pm at Haileybury Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to gather at Ali’s Grill in New Liskeard for a light luncheon following the service. Please RSVP to herbertfamily@sympatico.ca. Condolences and contributions may be left at www.buffamleveille.com.
