McAndrew, Gerald 'Jerry' - With sorrow the family announces the death of
Mr. Jerry McAndrew of Haileybury at the age of 83 years. Jerry passed away peacefully at the Tri-Town Extendicare with his loving wife of 40 years Rita by his side, on Sunday April 26, 2020.

Jerry was born on April 8, 1937 in Cobalt to the late Red and Mary McAndrew. Many will remember him as an ambulance attendant and funeral director for the Buffam family for many years. A long time Haileybury resident, Jerry enjoyed playing hockey in his younger days and was known for his powerful pitching arm in baseball. After retiring from Buffam funeral home, he and his wife Rita traveled to many destinations. Jerry will also be remembered as a friendly and generous man, helping those in need during the darkest hours of their lives. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. His presence will surely be missed.

Jerry is predeceased by his parents as well as his siblings Eb, Lila, Sonny, Polly, Joan and Jack. He is survived by his loving wife Rita Poppleton, his daughters Lynn Poppleton (Louis), Sandy Poppleton (Martin) and Sharon Poppleton. Cherished grandfather to Lauryn, Bradley, Sarah, Sophia and great-grandfather to Alexyn, Benson and Isabella; survived by his sisters Bea Smith, Marjorie Dubeau, Maureen Moore, Donna McLellan as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Cremation has taken place at Lakeview Crematorium, Haileybury. A memorial mass will be held at Ste Croix Catholic Church at a later date to be confirmed. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contribution in Jerry's memory can be made to the Tri-Town Extendicare. Condolences and contributions may be left at

Condolences to Rita and family and the McAndrew family

I am very sorry to hear of Gerry’s passing and know that he will be missed by many. The Buffam family thought of Gerry as family. We spent many a meal,Jack and I, around our dining table listening to Gerry’s stories and jokes! I have many good memories of out times together. He has earned his rest.
