Obituary for Hazel Olive Mathers (Stewart)

With a heavy heart, the family announces the passing of Hazel Mathers at age 67, after a short but brave battle with cancer. She gained wings on September 19, 2022 at Temiskaming Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Survived by and the beloved wife of James Mathers. They met over 55 years ago, and were inseparable their entire marriage of 48 years. The love they shared for each other was scarce, and magical. Hazel always said the key to a successful marriage is communication, love, and humor.
Survived by and cherished mother of Lee ( Terri ) Mathers and Anna (Paul) Williams. Her dedication and devotion to raising her children and providing a life for them will never be forgotten. First a mother, forever an Angel.
Proud grandma of the apples of her eye, AJ Mathers, and Owen Williams. Hazel always provided the best loving and friendly environment for her grandchildren that we could ask for. She was never afraid to get down on the ground to play and create memories that will forever last for her grandchildren.
Hazel is predeceased by her parents Allan and Anna Stewart, of Cobalt. Her siblings, Earl Stewart, Arnold Stewart, Carter Stewart, and Eden Stewart.
Hazel was loved and will be terribly missed by her siblings, Gerald ( Audrey) Stewart, Dale Stewart, Ben ( Jill) Stewart, Margaret Stewart, Linda Mathers, Victor ( Brenda) Stewart, Tom Stewart, sister-in-law Barb Stewart, and many nieces and nephews.
Hazel will be desperately missed by all those she has left behind. This unexpected loss so breaks our hearts. She was one of a kind, and to be loved by her was truly a blessing.
Instead of flowers or donations, we ask that you take a moment to hug your children, grandchildren, partner, or friend as time waits for no one. Embrace what you have at the moment, and appreciate life around you.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sears, Dr. Besner, Dr. Walton, and all the nursing staff at the Temiskaming Hospital for all their compassion and kindness, during Hazel’s final days.
Hazels’ final care has been entrusted to Buffam Leveille Funeral Home. In keeping with Hazel’s Wishes for cremation, no funeral services or visitation will be held. Hazel will later be laid to rest at the Cobalt Veteran’s Cemetery in Haileybury, Ontario, at a later date.
