1944 – 2022

With heavy hearts the family announces the death of Jean-Guy Plante at the age of 77 years. Jean-Guy passed away peacefully at Temiskaming Hospital with family by his side on Friday, February 4, 2022.

Born July 12, 1944 at Guérin, Québec to the late Armand Plante and Louiselle Ayotte. Jean-Guy had lived in Haileybury for most of his life and had work for Tri-Town Electric, the Cobalt Refinery and Agnico Eagle as a miner for which he was very proud. Jean Guy was also proud that he had been a firefighter in Cobalt for many years. Jean Guy will also be remembered for his love of animals and children, he enjoyed treating the neighbourhood children with treats and would always make sure he had a supply on hand at all times.

Jean-Guy is the loving husband of the late Carol Stewart [2012] and father of the late Michael Plante [2017]. Sadly missed by his children: Christine [Daniel] Meunier of New Liskeard, Peter [Kim Lawrence] of Hilliardton and Cathy Plante of Haileybury. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Kimberley, Matthew, Ashley [Reid], Kayla, Jolynne and Kristal; and great-grandson Landon Martel. Also missed by his siblings: Gilles [Michelle] Plante of Ottawa, Ghislain (Jannie) Plante of Cobalt and Daniel [Vicky] Plante of New Liskeard. Predeceased by his siblings: Denise [Camille] Lemire, Nicole [late Adrien] Demers, Norman [Judy] Plante of Haileybury, Marielle and Dianne. Jean-Guy is also missed by his fur baby Toby.

Cremation has taken place at Lakeview Crematorium – Haileybury. The family will welcome friends at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home, Saturday, July 16, 2022 beginning at 9:00 am. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Silverland Cemetery. The Reverend Valerie Paterson officiating.
