Obituary for Kathleen Ruth "Kay" Plaunt (Liscumb)

Kathleen (Kay) Ruth Plaunt, left us on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Kay left us as she lived, chatting with relatives during the day until she quietly slipped away.

Kay is survived by her children Diane Beatty (late Brian), Ray Trowhill (Rosemary), Janice Walsh (John), Katherine Dennis (late Brian), Patty Burke (Paul) and Anita Weston (late George). Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great grandchildren Brent Beatty (Darlene), Debbie Beatty (Joe), Michael Beatty (Alison), Robert Trowhill (Lily), Roderick Trowhill, Jennifer Walsh, Andrew Walsh (Sheena), Trine Dennis (Chuck), Kristina Gifford (Steve), Alexis Jensen (Philip), Braden Jensen (Gemma), Carley Burke, Molly Burke, Lois Weston-Bernstein, Gayle Weston, Keith Weston (Nadine), Syd Thomas, William Beatty, Ryan Trowhill, Shaylene Pangowish, Jessica Walsh, Christopher Walsh, Lex Walsh, Ava Walsh, Gage Aird, Anja Aird, Destyn Aird, Kassia Gifford, Shayla Gifford, Alba Jensen-Rudolph, Sloane Jensen, Autumn Jensen, Emma Bernstein, Jake Bernstein, late Nicole Weston, Jack Weston and a few others that called her “Mom”.

Kay met the love of her life, Frank, while working at the Haileybury Post Office. They married in 1958 and their home was always open. On Christmas mornings you would find Kay rising at the crack of dawn cooking up a Christmas feast and welcoming everyone who came through the door.

Crosswords and lottery tickets were a passion and Sundays were “get it yourself” dinner so she could sit on the porch with her papers catching up on the news and doing her puzzles. Everyone looked forward to her cards in the mail, which she sent to all on every occasion—even Halloween. Her friend, Pat, said it best. “She was so content being who she was…she never envied anyone”.

Kay always saw the good in people which made it so easy to love her. When she moved to Island View they welcomed her with friendship and when she moved across the street to The Lodge, her “family circle” got bigger and she felt so blessed to have them in her life.

Mrs. Plaunt's final care has been entrusted to Buffam Leveille Funeral Home. As per Kay’s wishes, there will be no service. A celebration of her extraordinary life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Temiskaming Hospital Foundation-Care Close to Home or to the Haileybury Food Bank. Condolences and memories can be left at www.buffamleveille.com.
