Obituary for Nelson Denomme

Peacefully surrounded by his family and in the arms of his wife, on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Temiskaming District Hospital, Nelson Denomme of New Liskeard passed away at the age of 75.

Loving husband of Jayne Denomme (nee Acton) for 51 years. Beloved father of Joel Denomme (Debbie Pouteau), Drew (Leslie) Denomme, Erin Denomme and Jay Denomme (Nancy Matus). Survived by his grandchildren Jonas, Noah, Liam, Evelyn, Marcus, Matthew (Regina) and his great granddaughter Maggie. Dear brother of Lorraine Gravel. Predeceased by his parents Jeremie and Sara Denomme (nee Leblanc) and his sister Carmelle.

Nelson was a familiar face around New Liskeard and was always quick with a smile and a friendly hello. If he had the time or even if he didn’t, he’d love to show you as many pictures of his grandchildren as you were willing to look at. Most days in the spring through fall you could find Nelson at the New Liskeard Golf Club, either working on the course where he had semi-retired to or out enjoying the fruits of his labour playing a round. Nelson was a notorious ball scavenger and it’s believed that even his grandchildren will never have to pay for golf balls.

In 1969, when Nelson was living in Toronto, he was riding the subway home after a Leafs game when he recognized a young lady he had taken on a date a year earlier in New Liskeard. Jayne had recently moved to Toronto and was now working in the city as well. A rekindled romance ensued and they eventually married, returned north and laid down their roots. The adoration and devotion Jayne and Nelson shared with each other for over half a century is a testament to the depth of their love.

Shortly after returning north, Jayne gave birth to a set of triplets (Joel, Drew & Erin) followed up by another boy (Jay) sixteen months later. Nelson was quietly, but fiercely devoted to his family and worked selflessly to support them through his entire life. His children will especially miss his warmth, mischievous wit and humour, and his unending love.

Nelson will also be cherished and missed by his many nieces, nephews, brother & sister-in-laws “outlaws”, and many of his other extended family.

Cremation has taken place at Lakeview Crematorium, Haileybury. A celebration of Nelson’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Buffam Leveille Funeral Home, 705-672-3122. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Canada. Online condolences accepted at www.buffamleveille.com.
