Obituary for Paul Oblin

The family announces with great sorrow his peaceful passing at the Temiskaming Hospital on December 29, 2022 at the age of 88 with his family at his side after a brief illness

Paul was born in Cobalt to Paul Oblin Sr and Bernadette Beaudin on February 5, 1934. He was the oldest of six. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Maurice. He is survived by his siblings Rita Poppleton (late Jerry McAndrew), Jeannette Audette (Raymond), Roger Oblin (Rejeanne) and George Oblin (Caroline). Paul is also survived by his sister in law, Patricia Oblin

Paul married Shirley Hart in 1955 and together they raised five children. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley and his eldest son, Dean. He is survived by his children Sandra Oblin (Ken Koski), Robert Oblin, Tracey Vos (Charlie) and Paula Benoit (Ron). He is also survived by his five grandchildren Todd Dufresne, Jordan Oblin, Brenden Benoit(Jenna), Brianna Benoit and Emma Oblin.

Paul is also survived by his in-laws Jack Hart (Janet) and Jean Urekar (late Frank). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Paul was a natural born entrepreneur. He started many businesses throughout his life. He owned his first restaurant at just 20 years old. He was the first to bring a pizzaria to the Tri-town area. He was the proud owner of Paul’s Billiards in Cobalt for many years. Snooker was a passion of his therefore owning a Billiard hall was a great choice. In his later years, Paul competed in the Seniors’ games and ended up going to the all Ontario for snooker. He won the Bronze medal, which was a huge source of pride and accomplishment for him. He dabbled in many other businesses such as flipping houses, selling real estate, owner of Don’s Septic Service and Gillies Lake Cottages into his 80s.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Temiskaming Hospital for the excellent care during his short stay. We would also like to thank the PSW team from Closing the Gap for the care the past year. Paul had a special fondness for Elizabeth and was always happy to see her. We would also like to thank Dr Hutten-Czapski and his nurse Lindsay for their ongoing support as we navigated this illness.

The family will welcome friends and family at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 4, 2023
beginnig at 12 noon. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00pm officiated by Father Leo Rancourt. Memorial contributions can be made to the Beverly-Ann Boros Palliative Suite. Condolences and tributes may be left at www.buffamleveille.com
