Obituary for Richard Allan Hunting

June 28, 1946 – February 25, 2022

Richard Hunting of Coleman Township went to be home with the Lord on Friday, February 25, 2022 from the Temiskaming Hospital at the age of 75 after a brief illness.

Richard was born in Sherbrook, QC and lived with his parents and siblings in Huntingville, QC. He worked the tobacco fields of Tillsonburg and apprenticed as an electrician in Niagara Falls before he joined the Canadian Armed Forces. Serving from C.F.B. Greenwood, NS with the sub-hunter Argus aircraft he saw many foreign and domestic locations, was a member of the Air Force band playing clarinet and held Marksman qualifications as a member of the Base Defence Team.
Following his honorable discharge, he worked for the Campbell Soup Co. in Etobicoke, ON as an Industrial Millwright until he moved to the District of Timiskaming and made his home in Coleman Township. Here he was employed as a school bus drive for Walsh Transportation Ltd and later with Stock Transportation leaving a profoundly memorable and joyful influence on hundreds of children. In addition to his secular duties, Richard served as Sunday School Superintendent in Middleton, NS and Mississauga, ON for many years.

Richard loved the Lord, his family and his community and spent his life in service to all. A member of the Coleman Fire Department, he also served as department chaplain, supported the Biker’s Reunion, actively participated in the annual MS Walk, supported the area food banks, and willingly took on any task asked of him.
Richard is survived by his wife of fifty years Heather and his son Garett [Sherry] Hunting, brothers: David [Cora] Hunting, James Hunting, Darel [Bonnie] Hunting, nieces and nephew: Darlene, Jennifer, Deborah, Sharon, Emily and Thomas, plus great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Marjorie Hunting and his nephew Daniel.

A published writer, Richard had a profound interest in studying the Bible, always looking forward to what lay ahead.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 5, 2022, 1:00 pm at the Temiskaming Church; Pastor Nick Koystic officiating. Donations in memory may be made to the Temiskaming Church Youth Dept., the church Building Fund or a charity of your choice. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr V. Dubois and Dr. P. Hutten-Czapski, EMS services and the many nurses, and support staff of the Temiskaming Hospital for their compassion and tender care. Interment will take place in Huntingville, QC.
